O Último Dia

   Esta última semana foi desgastante emocionalmente. Por um lado calharam-me muitos casos de tumores progressivos ou de doentes que saíram de remissão. Por outro lado, era a última semana e apesar de ter saudades de casa, uma parte de mim fica aqui no Tennessee com as pessoas maravilhosas que conheci. Hoje foi o último dia e amanhã inicio a minha penosa viagem de autocarro até Boston e depois de avião até Lisboa, com passagem por Dublin. Fica aqui o pequeno texto que coloquei hoje no Facebook.

   "Today is the last day of three amazing months at the UT teaching hospital. I can't believe it's been that long and that everything is about to come to an end. I could never imagine I would fall in love with Tennessee this badly and I think the reason why it happened is because of all the amazing people I met. Here it's all about kindness, taking care of one another and education. Most doctors, besides being awesome at what they do, really enjoy teaching. The vet techs and assistants are the best, always ready to help us with a smile on their face. Students welcomed us like we were part of the family.
   For those who said we wouldn't learn/do anything by doing an externship abroad, well...you were completely wrong because I learned more here than anywhere else and did everything from epidurals to chemotherapy.
Last but not least, this wouldn't have been the same without the three amazing girls I shared a house with. Despite our differences we had a lot of fun and it was a pleasure to have lived this experience with you guys Sissa, Mariana and Francisca.
   A part of my heart stays here today in Knoxville. That's the price I pay for the richness of living and for going back to Portugal with so much more knowledge, brightness of spirit and for having met all the incredible human beings that crossed my path in this small town that I will never forget."

   Não podia ter pedido mais deste estágio. Dei o meu melhor, representei a minha faculdade da melhor forma possível e o meu conhecimento alargou-se substancialmente. Fiquei com uma ideia clara do que é fazer medicina veterinária nos Estados Unidos e com uma grande vontade de regressar um dia para fazer uma residência na área da oncologia, sabendo que tenho o total apoio dos médicos deste hospital. Valeu a pena cada cêntimo gasto, cada cabelo branco, cada dúvida, cada angústia porque regressarei a Portugal mil vezes mais rica do que de lá saí.
